Women - Getting Your Groove Back!
Over the years, women have triumphantly moved on from being solely domesticated housewives to empowered career driven working moms. Such events have given women the reputation of being versatile, and mega multitaskers! However, what’s alarming is that as women get so busy with work and family, they can and often do overlook their own health.
Fortunately, the Health Information Resource Center (HIRC) started a great annual event called the National Women’s Health and Fitness Day, celebrated every last Wednesday of September. It is a great chance for any woman to revisit her favorite fitness routines that took the backseat when they had to take on the world and overlook their own needs.
Why participating in your own health is so critical:
- You deserve it. What with all your efforts to juggle raising kids and making a living, you definitely deserve to take some time for yourself. Don’t feel guilty about something that makes you feel good. When you feel good, you function better!
- Women are more at risk with diseases like osteoporosis, heart attack, and Alzheimer’s, among others. As we grow older, we tend to be more prone to various degenerative diseases we could very well do so without. It is best to take care of ourselves early on, so we don’t suffer as we grow older.
- Exercise and fitness routines freshen you up. People release endorphins as they exercise. Endorphins, also called the ‘happy hormones’, will give you a more positive outlook and mindset, allowing you to refresh after long periods of busy days at work and even at home.
Both men and women need and deserve to take some time out of their busy lives to do something good for themselves. It is not selfish, it is just a way for you to be better at what you do by treating yourself better through health and fitness.
